FARM TOUR
The Nicoya Peninsula is considered one of the 5 Blue Zones that exist in the world, and we take great pride in sharing our customs and culture with you on this tour. Here in the countryside you can still find families that preserve the traditions and simple way of life, and we will introduce you to a local Costa Rican family to see how they live on their farm.
On this tour you have the opportunity to milk cows by hand and learn the traditional way of making fresh milk, in addition to being able to see the production of sugar cane juice. After your time in the countryside, you will understand why the Nicoya Peninsula is a region where its residents are known for living longer and happier.
The tour guide will be waiting for you at the farm, the family will receive you in the best way, starting with a delicious typical Costa Rican breakfast, with gallo pinto, eggs from the farm, fresh fruit, homemade custard, and Costa Rican coffee. After breakfast we continue with the itinerary of activities. We will show you the farm where the chickens are outdoors, and the countryside landscape is spectacular, surrounded by paddocks and trees of all kinds. Then we go to the corral area where the cows are ready to be milked. This is a process that everyone is welcome to learn.
The artisanal-style milking process is a method of extracting milk from the cow that is made in the period in which the calf is lactating. We will also learn about the process of producing fresh cheese for a typical Costa Rican cheese that for years has been essential in feeding families.
Then we will go to an area where the production of cane juice is done with manual machines pulled by oxen, which are essential to this process. After helping make the cane juice, you’ll have the option to take a horseback ride to see the cane fields and the farm with a view of the cattle and the beautiful landscape. Without a doubt, this is a great experience that allows you to get to know the Costa Rican traditions and customs on a local family farm.
